Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel has said that it does not plan to regulate the use of voice over IP (VoIP) telephony services, as it considers it to be a technology rather than a service that is covered by a licence for fixed line services or multimedia communications services. Anatel said it is aware that VoIP will have a significant impact on the telecoms sector, admitting that it will need to watch the competition format of the fixed line market in the future.
