mobilcom and freenet merger nearly complete

The shareholders of mobilcom yesterday approved the German cellco’s planned merger with its internet subsidiary freenet.de. Germany’s competition authorities approved the plan earlier this week and the EUR1.8 billion deal now awaits freenet’s shareholder’s vote today in order to be completed by the scheduled date of 1 September. Last month he two companies agreed to merge in order to form Germany’s second largest full service provider behind the incumbent Deutsche Telekom, with a portfolio of fixed line, broadband and wireless services.
