Orange sets September date for 3G launch

24 Aug 2005

Switzerland’s Orange Communications has scheduled the launch of UMTS services for 5 September 2005. Its 3G network will initially cover a total of 25 urban areas and tourist destinations, with coverage to be extended to rural areas next year. Orange intends to price video calls at the same rate as voice calls, and is also launching a live TV application and a 3G data card for laptop users. Orange users will have the choice of four 3G handsets next month; the company plans to launch more before the end of the year.
