Telecom ups the ante in fight for mobile users

23 Aug 2005

Telecom New Zealand is taking the fight to rival Vodafone, by offering discounts for mobile users on its pre-paid service plans. Telecom’s ‘3 minute hour’ offer allows pay-as-you-go users on its 027 network to talk for up to an hour, but pay for just three minutes. The promotion will run until the end of the year and is valid for weekdays from 7pm to 7am and weekends from 7pm Friday to 7am Monday. Telecom’s aggressive marketing is designed to help it maintain its recent strong performances against rival Vodafone, which has lost ground in recent months. However, the UK-based mobile network operator is fighting back with the launch of 3G services and a raft of new products and handsets.
