Oman Mobile Telecommunications Company (OMTC) has announced that its subscriber base has passed a million in the last week, up from 900,000 three months ago. The cellco now covers more than 90% of the populated areas of the country and offers a roaming service through 200 agreements with providers in more than 85 countries. State-run OMTC competes with newcomer Nawras Telecom, a joint venture between Qatar’s Qtel, Denmark’s TDC and local Omani partners, which launched services in March this year and claimed 82,500 customers by the end of June.
