Qatar Telecom (Q-Tel) says that the country’s link to FLAG Telecom’s FALCON undersea fibre-optic cable will go live early next year. In April Qatar joined Oman, Egypt, Bahrain, India and Kuwait in purchasing QAR100 million (USD27.4 million) of capacity on the new Gulf region system. The FALCON cable will land in Doha and promises to significantly boost Q-Tel’s international connectivity. The network is being built out by Alcatel Submarine Networks. Q-Tel’s current international links are made via the SeaMeWe and Fibre Optic Gulf cable systems.
