VTR obeys TDLC by divesting satellite TV asset

18 Aug 2005

Chilean cable market leader VTR-Metropolis has sold its satellite television unit TV Max to US-owned cable operator Southam Chile for USD2.8 million. The transaction fulfills one of the conditions of the merger between VTR and fellow cableco Metropolis, set by Chile’s anti-monopoly tribunal TDLC. At the end of June VTR-Metropolis claimed over 745,000 CATV subscribers (or 88% of the market), 240,000 broadband internet users and 350,000 telephony subscribers. TV Max offers pay-TV services in the Metropolitan Region and has around 12,000 subscribers.
