Maxis waits for 3G demand

16 Aug 2005

Malaysian mobile operator Maxis Mobile has signed up 7,000 subscribers to its 3G service since its launch on 1 July, according to company officials yesterday. Maxis is planning further 3G rollouts in the northern island of Penang and the southern city of Johor Bahru by the end of the year, whilst continuing to expand coverage in the greater Kuala Lumpur region. However, it says it could take up to five years before it rolls out a nationwide network, depending on the level of demand it encounters in the three regions.
