USD1 billion broadband Bush programme

15 Aug 2005

Australian Communications Minister Helen Coonan is finalising a proposal to dramatically expand incentives to internet providers to rollout new broadband services in underserved areas. Her plan for broadband services, which would be conditional on the planned AUD30 billion Telstra sale, is expected to build on existing plans aimed at incentivising providers to rollout services to regional customers, particularly those living in the Bush. Plans also include funding to support new electronic education and e-health services for those living outside of metropolitan areas.
