AT&T joins the Chinese march

15 Aug 2005

AT&T has joined the growing list of companies moving their Greater China headquarters from Hong Kong to Shanghai to take advantage of lower labour costs and the fast-growing Chinese economy. Last year China eased the rules for foreign investors to set up holding companies and seek regional headquarter status to benefit from preferential tax rates. The new rules have already encouraged the likes of Paris-based broadband internet equipment supplier Alcatel to move to China, with many others following suit to be nearer to their customers.
