Mobile penetration in Venezuela reached 37.1% at the end of June 2005, up from 33.3% the previous quarter, thanks to record gains of 1.05 million new net additions, which lifted the total subscriber base to 9.83 million – up 30.8% year-on-year. According to the telecoms regulator Conatel, fixed line penetration also rose to 13.2%, thanks to the activation of 67,881 new lines. Venezuela had more than 3.49 million lines in service at the end of the first half, 11.5% more than end-June 2004. The country also had 136,480 public telephones, a rise of 4,781 in the quarter.
Internet penetration is also on the increase. Venezuela had 528,194 registered internet users at the end of June, an increase of 40.6% compared with the previous year and a penetration rate of 10.2%. The total number of internet users reached 6.69 million (+44.9%).
