Argentina’s second largest cellco Telecom Personal has reported subscriber growth of 14% in the second quarter of 2005 to take its total to over 4.8 million users. During the last twelve months the operator added 1.7 million customers in the rapidly expanding market. Personal’s GSM subscribers now represent 37% of the overall base. Typically, sharp increases in subscriber numbers lead to declining average revenue per user (ARPU), but not so for the Telecom Argentina subsidiary: Personal’s ARPU for the first half of 2005 stood at USD12.2, up 3% compared to the corresponding period last year. Quarterly revenues surged 63% to USD340 million. Meanwhile, Paraguayan subsidiary Núcleo claimed approximately 567,000 subscribers at the end of June 2005, a quarter-on-quarter rise of 6%.
