CyTA complies with court order

10 Aug 2005

Cypriot telecoms operator CyTA has said it will comply with a court order to raise the mobile phone rates of its mobile subsidiary Cytamobile-Vodafone. The country’s Supreme Court passed the ruling at the end of July, after its’s sole competitor Areeba complained that Cytamobile-Vodafone, which controls 96% of the country’s mobile sector, was abusing its dominant position in the market. The court ruled that CyTA must revert back to its pre-April rates. The operator initially refused to do so, but has now complied, although it says the new rates will not come into effect until 9 September.
