China Mobile considers Uzbeki investment

According to a number of Chinese online news sites China Mobile is considering buying a stake in Uzbektelecom. Executives from the Chinese telco are reported to have visited Uzbekistan last month for meetings with the local regulator and government officials. Last year the Uzbekistan government revealed plans to sell between 49% and 64.2% of the national PTO to overseas investors; Russia’s Golden Telecom, Korea Telecom and the Israel’s Solan Communications have also expressed an interest, the latter having valued the stake at USD50 million.
