Antel may seek TI tie-up

10 Aug 2005

Reports from South America are suggesting that Uruguay’s state-controlled telco Antel may be considering a tie-up with Telecom Argentina. BNamericas says that Antel is looking at a partnership with a foreign telco to help provide capital for growth and network upgrades. Telecom Argentina is owned by Telecom Italia. Antel is facing stiff competition in the local mobile market from the large regional players Telefónica and América Móvil, both of which already offer combined brands across Argentina and Uruguay.
