Colombia’s mobile operators ended the first half of 2005 with a combined subscriber base of over 15.5 million, an increase of 3.3 million in three months. Comunicación Celular (Comcel) remained the market leader with 9.174 million users, followed by Telefónica Móviles Colombia (Movistar) with 4.757 million and Colombia Móvil (Ola) with 1.6 million. Last week, local trunking service provider Avantel reported that it had modified its telecoms licence to become the country’s fourth mobile operator.
