Optus earnings drop

5 Aug 2005

Optus has revealed a year-on-year decline of AUD1 million in profits for the second quarter, ending the period at AUD150 million, a fall which it has put down to increased competition in the country’s near-saturated mobile market. The company, which has recently become involved in a price war with rival mobile operators Telstra, Hutchison and Vodafone, signed up 105,000 new mobile users in the three months to the end of June. Its broadband customer base grew to 406,000.
