Malaysian mobile operator Celcom’s incoming CEO Datuk Mohammed Shazalli Ramly said yesterday that he expects the take-up of the cellco’s 3G services to increase significantly in the near future. Shazalli, who succeeds current CEO Datuk Mohamed Yunus Ramli Abbas on 1 September, added that a pre-paid 3G service was in the pipeline to boost interest in the technology, although he did not disclose a planned launch date. Telekom Malaysia subsidiary Celcom was the first in the country to launch full commercial 3G services on 17 May and has reported an ‘encouraging response’ from users, with around 2,500 contract customers signing up in the first week.
