Embratel and Brasil Telecom win university contracts

Brazilian telcos Embratel and Brasil Telecom have been awarded contracts from the country’s Education Ministry to supply high speed internet connections to universities. The networks, which will offer speeds of 2.5Gbps – 10Gbps, will require investments of BRL10 million (USD4.3 million) each year until it is fully deployed. Embratel will be responsible for two-thirds of the project, with Brasil Telecom covering the rest. The project will begin in September.
