Deutsche Telekom’s local loop rates to drop by 10%

5 Aug 2005

Following a decision by the European Commission’s Competition Directorate General, Germany’s Deutsche Telekom (DT) has been forced to drop its wholesale line access charges by 10% to EUR2.43 per month, far below the EUR4.77 charge it requested permission for earlier this year. Commissioner Neelie Kroes said that the action was taken to give rival telcos access to the local loop at a reasonable price, and boost Germany’s broadband penetration rate. The tariff change is effective immediately.
