Tele2’s Versatel bid falters

4 Aug 2005

Tele2’s bid to acquire the Dutch assets of alternative carrier Versatel has run into trouble according to reports. Swedish newspaper Dagens Industri says that having initially backed Tele2’s takeover offer which was made in mid-July, Versatel’s owners now consider its bid too low. Versatel has this week reported a strong set of second-quarter financial results and shareholders now feel that Tele2 should up its proposed purchase price. Versatel is selling off its operations in other markets separately, with Apax thought likely to snap up its German arm. It had 177,000 DSL subscribers in Germany and 172,000 in the Netherlands at the end of June.
