Regulator to issue DLD licence to TransTeleCom

3 Aug 2005

Russia’s telecommunications regulator Rossvyaznadzor says it will issue a long-distance licence to TransTeleCom, a unit of government-owned Russian Railways. TransTeleCom hopes to provide telecoms access points in all 89 Russian regions, and says it currently has more than 900 points in 71 regions of the country. The newcomer plans to launch international and domestic long-distance services in 2007, in competition with former monopoly operator Rostelecom. Three more new operators – Multiregional Transit Telecom (MTT), CenterinfoCom and Golden Telecom – have already received long-distance licences for Russia.
