During the second quarter of 2005, digital trunking operator Nextel Argentina signed up 31,700 new users to finish June with a total customer base of 432,000, representing a 25% increase on the previous year’s total of 322,500. Its monthly ARPU levels increased by USD2 to USD42.

Launched in 1998, Nextel Argentina uses a packet-based integrated digital enhanced network (iDEN) platform, supplied by Motorola, to deliver basic voice services, a digital walkie-talkie offering and mobile messaging to a mainly corporate user base. It expanded capacity in its coverage areas in 2004 by acquiring trunking business Radio Movil Digital Argentina.
