NTT DoCoMo has revealed that it is looking for investment and business opportunities abroad as revenues at home continue to decline. The cellco has said it is considering investing in overseas carriers particularly in the Asia Pacific region, as well as launching new businesses abroad. DoCoMo posted its first fall in revenues and operating profits last year, and is forecasting flat results for 2005. It expects the situation in Japan to worsen with the introduction of number portability, increased competition and the launch of mobile IP services.
In a separate story DoCoMo has developed two new 3G FOMA handsets, FOMA Dolce and SA700iS. FOMA Dolce will be launched on 5 August while the launch date for the S700iS has not been revealed. The cellco will also launch a new news and information service, i-channel, and a series of compatible handsets, the 3G FOMA 701i series.
