Icatel wants 20% of VoIP market

Public telephone services company Icatel Servicos has revealed plans to secure a 20% share of the Brazilian voice over IP (VoIP) market by the beginning of 2007. The company said it will invest around BRL5 million (USD2.11 million) in the VoIP market by the end of 2006. It currently manages around 800,000 public telephones.

In a separate story, Brazilian telco Telemar has denied rumours that it has entered into an agreement to acquire subscription cable TV company TVA from media group Abril. It has also denied speculation that it is looking to acquire electricity company Electropaulo.
