Unefon EBITDA climbs 23% in 2Q

1 Aug 2005

Mexico’s fourth largest mobile operator Unefon reported a 23% rise in EBITDA to MXN316 million (USD29.8 million) for the three months to 30 June 2005, thanks in part to the net addition of 113,000 new subscribers, which helped lift its total to 1.44 million users from 1.33 million a year ago. The company’s EBITDA margin also rose from 26% to 31%, but Unefon reported that revenues fell 6.9% to MXN1.01 billion, compared with MXN1.08 billion in 2004, after the government reduced calling party pay rates at the start of the year. ARPU in the quarter fell by 17% to MXN204 per month, partly due to the fall in CPP rates.
