LMT signs 3G contract with Nokia

1 Aug 2005

Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT) has signed an agreement with Nokia for the supply of W-CDMA 3G network equipment; the deal follows the roll out of a trial network in the capital Riga. Under the first phase of the contract Nokia will extend the W-CDMA network to suburban areas during 2005/06. LMT is the largest wireless operator in Latvia with around 770,000 customers at the end of March 2005. It competes with Tele2 and Telekom Baltija (Triatel) with a third competitor, Bite Mobile, expected to launch services in late 2005/early 2006.
