Costa Rican state-owned telco ICE is planning to extend and upgrade its fibre-optic backbone network after the government received a USD24 million loan from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). The project will involve rolling out 900km of optical fibre cable, bringing the total length of the network to over 1,700km, and extending coverage to an area stretching from Penas Blancas on the border with Nicaragua to Pasos Canoas bordering Panama.
