27 Jul 2005

SMART Communications has signed a multi-million dollar contract for the supply of Motorola wireless broadband products. SMART will take delivery of Motorola’s Canopy Advantage equipment later this year, enabling it to source new revenue streams by offering new wireless broadband services in both developed and underdeveloped parts of the country. SMART is the leading cellular operator in the Philippines with more than 20 million subscribers, but has spent more than a year trialling the new platform. Commenting on the announcement Rene Dos Remedios, the president of Meridian Telekoms, a subsidiary of SMART which handles its broadband fixed wireless access operations, said the company believed ‘that wireless broadband is the most affordable way for the people of the Philippines to be able to receive reliable, high speed internet connectivity’.
