TalkTalk to undercut BT with line rental offer

25 Jul 2005

UK alternative fixed line operator TalkTalk is to become the first major alternative telco to challenge incumbent operator BT in the line rental market when it launches its first complete telephony package next month. TalkTalk, owned by European retail giant Carphone Warehouse, has thus far offered low-cost services over a BT line, with rental fees paid directly to the incumbent by the customer. From next month TalkTalk will offer its own line rental service, charging GBP9.99 a month compared to BT’s cheapest tariff of GBP10.50. Launched in February 2003, TalkTalk recently signed up its millionth customer.
