Movistar switches on GSM

25 Jul 2005

CDMA provider Movistar Colombia launched GSM voice services on Friday. The cellco, a unit of Spanish group Telefónica Móviles, has invested over USD300 million to roll out GSM infrastructure in the same areas of the country in which it has CDMA coverage. By the end of 2005 Movistar plans to have a bigger GSM than CDMA footprint. It says it will launch data services over the new network next month.
