Venezuela’s tax agency Seniat closed down the head office of mobile operator Digitel last Thursday and Friday as part of an investigation into bookkeeping irregularities. The move followed a review of the cellco’s paperwork which found that the company’s receipts did not match those recorded in its tax documentation. The agency handed Digitel a VEB159.5 million (USD75,000) fine. Digitel refused to comment except to say that the office closure did not affect operation of the company’s mobile service.
