UTStarcom gets Unicom order

China Unicom has signed a deal with handset manufacturer UTStarcom for 250,000 of its C1160 clamshell CDMA2000 1X phones. The shipment forms part of a wider agreement between the supplier and Unicom, which is now the world’s second largest CDMA operator. Unicom has just announced that it had 30.92 million CDMA subscribers at the end of June, up 3.1 million from the start of the year. It also has 89.61 million GSM customers, a rise of 5.34 million in six months.
