Telcel passes five million customer mark

Telcel, the Venezuelan cellco snapped up by Telefónica Móviles (TEM) as part of its takeover of the LatAm businesses of BellSouth, signed up 400,000 new users in the second quarter of 2005, taking its subscriber base past the five million mark. Operating under TEM’s pan-American Movistar brand name, Telcel now covers 98% of Venezuela’s settled areas and boasts a market share of more than 46%.
