Regulator begins price probe

20 Jul 2005

South African regulator ICASA is considering forcing the country’s mobile operators to cut their prices, as high tariffs continue to hamper the market’s growth, according to Reuters. The body says it is to begin an investigation into whether the current mobile pricing structure is justified and whether there is sufficient competition in the sector following complaints from the Consumer Users Association of South Africa about the ‘obscene’ cost of calls and texts.
