Embratel challenges Telefonica contract

19 Jul 2005

Fixed line operator Embratel has challenged the Sao Paulo state government over a decision to award a network expansion contract to its rival Telefonica. Embratel claims that it should have been awarded the deal, as it tendered a better price. Under the agreement, which is valid for five years and worth BRL329 million (USD140 million), Telefonica will extend its network from 7,000 to 18,000 access points and install new internet protocol security technology.
