Chile closed the first half of 2005 with more than 600,000 broadband connections in service, according to Claudio Munoz, CEO of the country’s largest telco Telefónica CTC. The figure brings total internet connections to a million, up from 812,000 at the end of 2004, representing internet penetration of around 6%. Approximately 20% more businesses in the country are now using broadband services than 18 months ago.
