Tele2 buys Comunitel

15 Jul 2005

Swedish-owned telco Tele2 has paid EUR257 million to acquire Spanish alternative operator Comunitel from the ONI group. Tele2 already operates in Spain as a fixed line reseller and the purchase of Comunitel will give it access to a 16,730km backbone network and 191 unbundled exchanges. It will also give Tele2 a foothold in the Spanish business services market. Portugal-based ONI has decided to sell off its Spanish assets and concentrate on its domestic market.
