UK regulator Ofcom says there were around 8.1 million broadband connections in the country at the end of June, more than double the number registered 18 months earlier, surpassing the number of dial-up users for the first time. Broadband subscribers were signing up at a rate of 73,800 a week in 2004, the regulator added.
