Nextel to sue regulator

13 Jul 2005

Mexican wireless operator Nextel is launching a legal battle against the country’s telecoms regulator Cofetel for failing to act to open up SMS interconnection. According to BNamericas, Nextel is suing for “patrimonial damage” after Cofetel failed to issue it with an authorisation which would allow Nextel customers to send text messages to users of other mobile networks in Mexico. Nextel, which operates a mobile trunking network for business users based on iDEN technology, had 882,600 clients in Mexico at the end of March.
