Japan’s KDDI, which operates mobile operator au, has revealed plans for a new service which will enable subscribers to use their mobile phones to buy goods, reserve tickets and conduct other commercial transactions. The operator said that the service will be launched in September over two new handsets embedded with a small chip – dubbed FeliCa – developed by Sony. Rival operator NTT DoCoMo developed similar phones last year.
