FT: no interest in Auna

13 Jul 2005

France Télécom has ruled itself out of bidding for the Spanish telco Auna. As reported by Comms Update yesterday, two private equity groups have submitted offers for the Spanish firm which provides a full range of wireline and wireless services, and although the deadline for bids was Monday both offers are thought to be too low for Auna shareholders. This opens the way for a fresh bid, and France Télécom is being linked with a possible entry into the Spanish market where it has only a small presence. However, FT’s chief executive Didier Lombard has told Dow Jones Newswires: “We are not part of the current process at the moment,” and added: “We have no plans to bid.”
