State-run fixed line operator Colombia Telecom is rumoured to be considering a partnership with either Mexico’s America Móvil, owner of wireless market leader Comcel, or Spain’s Telefónica Móviles, owner of TEM Colombia, in a bid to enter the Colombian mobile market. Telecom is intent on entering the sector this year, and has previously looked at other options, including a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) venture and a merger with domestic operators ETB and EPM, co-owner of Colombia Móvil.
