TCI completes USD700m fibre-optic upgrade

The Telecommunication Company of Iran (TCI) has completed the USD700 million upgrade of its 56,000km nationwide analogue microwave network to fibre-optic technology. The infrastructure has been extended to more remote and rural parts of Iran, as well as connecting the country with neighbouring Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan and the UAE. TCI eventually plans to extend the network to Afghanistan, Kuwait, Pakistan and Turkey.
