The International Telecommunication Commission (ITC) has awarded Sri Lanka USD64.5 million to redevelop telecoms services affected by the recent tsunami. The country’s Telecommunications, Posts and Udarata Development Minister D. M. Jayaratne said that the money would be used to rebuild all post offices and telecoms networks damaged last year and that, with the assistance of foreign donors, 400 pay phones would be installed in rural parts in the coming year.
