Kuwaiti firm Wataniya International has launched an iDEN-based mobile network in Saudi Arabia. The network, which uses technology developed by Motorola, will provide digital mobile services for business customers. Wataniya holds a 38% stake in the local firm PTC which is offering services under a 15-year build-transfer-operate agreement with the Kingdom’s dominant operator STC. Coverage is initially available in Mecca, Medina, Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Dhahran, and along the Mecca-Jeddah highway.
