SeCom to hold 450MHz auction

7 Jul 2005

Argentine communications ministry SeCom is preparing to hold auctions for wireless spectrum in the 450MHz band for the provision of fixed-wireless services in remote or sparsely populated areas, according to BNamericas. National telcos Telefónica de Argentina and Telecom Argentina have already launched trial networks using 450MHz technology, and local operator CoTeCal has rolled out a 450MHz CDMA2000 1x and 1x EV-DO wireless in the local loop (WiLL) network in the rural Patagonian region of El Chalten, with infrastructure supplied by Chinese vendor Huawei. The government estimates the potential market in areas of low population to be around two million.
