Hutchison still eyeing Spain

Hutchison Whampoa has once again confirmed that it is interested in entering Spain’s mobile market, although it is denying reports that it is seeking to acquire the local wireline and wireless operator Grupo Auna. Auna, the company which controls Amena, the smallest of Spain’s three GSM providers, has been put up for sale by existing investors. However, Hong Kong-based Hutchison has ruled itself out of a move for the firm; Dow Jones quotes Hutchison spokeswoman Laura Cheung as saying: “We are not involved in the Grupo Auna sale process.” Hutchison is also thought to be in talks with Spanish 3G licensee Xfera, which has yet to launch commercial services. Cheung told Dow Jones: “Spain is a market that interests Hutchison and we will continue to monitor opportunities for us there.”
