Pakistan’s internet market has been severely damaged by damage to an undersea cable which has disrupted internet connections for the country’s ten million online subscribers for almost a week. A repair ship has been sent out to search the Arabian Sea for the fault, but is has not yet been located. PTCL said that the internet loss has cost between USD40 – USD60 million, as well as costing thousands of future call centre jobs and foreign investment. Some selected key internet users, including airlines, banks and the stock market, are using a back-up system.
