German ISP T-Online has acquired Spanish network operator Albura for EUR61.5 million. T-Online, which is owned by Deutsche Telekom, has also signed a deal which gives it access to the backbone network of Albura’s former owner, Red Eléctrica de España. Albura has a 7,500km network which provides DSL coverage to around 40% of Spain’s population, including six major metropolitan centres and 50 regional areas. The German company says it is expecting to offer 60% coverage by the end of 2006 and it will begin upgrading its new network with ADSL2+ equipment early next year. T-Online chairman, Rainier Beaujean, said: “We see a great potential for the Spanish market”.
